Bioactive ingredientS and extracts

Microalgal ingredients and extracts you can actually formulate with

We supply protein-rich ingredients and bioactive extracts for food, nutrition, pet food and cosmetics. Produced through next-generation biotechnology, with tailor-made nutritional and sensory profiles at a cost-effective price.

PhycoProtein White

Microalgal protein that disappears into the product. Neutral colour and flavour.

50% protein content.

PhycoProtein Yellow

Protein-rich biomass, carrying lutein and other carotenoids, for applications where the pigment is a bioactive asset rather than a problem.

≥35% protein content.

PhycoGel

Sulphated exopolysaccharides obtained by the marine alga Porphyridium cruentum for cosmetic applications.

The real constraint IN FOOD

Algae rarely fail in nutrition. In food, they fail on colour and taste.

Conventional algal biomass is dark green, tastes grassy and marine, and usually appears at low inclusion levels, in capsules and tablets. The moment a food product formulator wants algae-based ingredients in a functional product, a beverage, a dairy alternative, or a bakery item, the ingredient stops being an option.

Conventional

Dark green, and it tastes of it

Limits inclusion levels and rules out pale matrices entirely. The nutrition is there, but the formulator cannot use it.

Ours

Chlorophyll-reduced or chlorophyll-free

Same organism, same non-GMO status, a fraction of the sensory penalty. The constraint largely disappears.

Applications

Where these ingredients go:

Functional food

Bars, snacks, pasta and meal replacements, where the protein has to count on the panel and go unnoticed in the product. Without the sensory penalty, the inclusion level is set by the recipe rather than by the colour.

Functional beverages

The hardest matrix there is: in a pale drink, colour and off-notes have nowhere to hide. Neutral colour and taste mean the protein target no longer has to be set by what the drink looks like.

Vegan protein substitute

A complete amino acid profile from a single non-GMO organism — no soy, no pea, no dairy on the label. One ingredient covering what usually takes a blend.

Supplements

Capsules, tablets and powders, where protein, carotenoids or both are wanted from one raw material rather than assembled from several.

Dairy alternatives

Plant milks, yoghurts and desserts are white products, exactly where a green ingredient fails first. Fortify the protein without tinting the base.

Bakery

Protein into bread, cake and biscuit — and into egg-free recipes, where structure and colour have to come back too. Neutral where the crumb has to stay pale, golden where a warm note is welcome.

Pet nutrition and feed

Kibble, treats and layer feed, where palatability and colour are both bought on purpose. Carotenoids are a paid-for function here, not a side effect to be tolerated.

Cosmetics

Hydration, barrier support and film-forming in skin care, from a sulphated exopolysaccharide that performs at low use levels.

Product range

Three ingredients, three products:

PhycoProtein White

Chlorella sp.

Protein-rich biomass, neutral in colour and taste, for products where a green cast is not an option. Complete amino acid profile.

PhycoProtein Yellow

Chlorella sp.

Pigmented protein-rich biomass with increased lutein content. For applications where the bioactive pigment is an asset rather than a problem.

PhycoGel

Porphyridium purpureum

Clinically approved 1% sulphated polysaccharide gel obtained from Porphyridium cruentum. Marine-derived bioactive ally for cosmetic applications.

compliance

Non-GMO, and documented for market entry.

There is no recombinant DNA in the organism or in the process, so no GMO labelling obligation passes to your finished product.

Strain identification, Novel Food documentation and the relevant feed and cosmetic references are provided during scoping, so your regulatory team can complete its own assessment.

Formulation support

If the spec you need doesn't exist yet, we can make it.

We help you get the ingredient into the product: inclusion levels, colour and taste behaviour in your matrix, stability through your process, and which format to use where. If a target needs a composition we do not currently supply, we can develop it, because we breed and improve the strains ourselves rather than buying biomass.
